Ethereal voice by Visceral Waves July 2022 London, UK
The music video for my original song “Home” was created in collaboration with my partner and creative new media producer Blair Zaye. We joined lyrical storytelling and electronic sounds of my musicwith new media sensor technology - representing the experience of the home.
Through TouchDesigner software Blair captured my body as the vehicle for the emotions creating reactive digital motion graphic for the song: Created within TouchDesigner, captured live via a RealSense depth camera and converted into a point cloud via an instancing geometry system and glsl. Which is then made sound reactive to the performers - Asia’s voice with the use of audio filters affecting set visual parameters.

I composed my original song “Home” with an intention to contain deep, intimate feelings about my personal space – my home.
During the pandemic I spent a lot of time by myself at home in Poland, far away from my partner Blair or friends but close to my polish family. I discovered anew the authentic atmosphere of the space and me afresh! within that place.
Home became now a safe place for me where I can create original music, rehearse, perform, bake, and be with myself, by myself. Being able to express myself freely, especially my feelings while music composing and my thoughts writing lyrics for each song, it was a very important therapeutic process.
Home has become my sanctuary conducive to meditation.
I perform my ritual of meditating at home. I have been consequently supporting myself singing mantras since I had discovered it on my journey to Nepal in 2016. Breathing exercises and repeating affirmations calm me down. The time spent being internally focused profits with greater harmony, balance, awareness and peacefulness.

Spending time at home can be a repeating process that allows for meditation within everyday tasks, meditating while song writing, singing, cooking, washing, cleaning, and taking care of plants, even relaxing or sleeping. At home we can be in a different dimension, dimension of feeling connected to self and to the close surroundings. It allows auto isolation – self-reflection, spending time with self, befriending self.

Painted Sounds

 Audio-Reactive-AutoBrush

Painted Sounds is a collaborative audio-visual performance with acousmatic, ambient electronic music & innovative use of algorithms for computer software-generated reactive digital painting.

Asia Gulcz composed electronic music with the use of Ableton software and a Novation keyboard, recorded, mixed, and produced by herself. Asia Gulcz is also a costume designer as well as a performer.

Each instrument is captured separately onto tracks of which Blair Zaye then measures the frequency and amplitude data from the music composition via Touchdesigner - a node-based audio-visual software and creates a collection of multi-layered algorithmic parameters which in turn convert the data into number values which designate the mass, map the path, speed, and velocity of the movement of each brushstroke, while concurrently affecting the red, green blue colour number values - changing the hue of the image and also control the degree of transparency, the combination of which drive multiple virtual brushstrokes and make them come alive.

On 10th July 2021 I  joined Figment NYC as one of the performing artists for an international creative festival.  With the great help of curators of the festival my latest performance "Painted Sounds" (co-created with Blair Zaye) was transformed in an interactive space for the audience's active participation. For the reason of the current pandemic restrictions I was unable to join in person so that I was available through the all festival weekend      online for Q&A.

My electronic composition "Painted Sounds" in a form of a QR code was available for the audience to listen online through the headphones while visiting the festival. Audience was invited to scan tha QR code and express themselves while painting to the music on a large piece of paper and chalkboard. Our performance "Painted Sounds" was also projected onto the wall (where the drawings were taking place) in the evening. My performing area was created as an environment to relax with lots of pillows, cushions and carpet. I invited the audience to immerse themselves in a musical  journey, deeply listen to the ambient music and try drawing what came to the imagination while listenning to "Painted Sounds".

Outcomes: interconnection, online presence and international interaction, empathy in space, self-awareness, space awareness, peacefulness, deep focus, self-expression, activation of the imagination, creative actions.

The outcome of the audience's input was incredibly fascinating. Many people drew: water creatures, eyes, animals, movement of water, wind, waves. I feel like people allowed themselves to look very deeply into the subconscious and allowed themselves for emotional self-expression. We also had young creative artists drawing on the chalk board daytime :) I appreciate all the painters-performers for giving me feedback and further inspiration. Thank you!
